Q Timex 1975 Reissue Day-Date 38mm
Hi, this is Alan. Thanks for reading, and for your interest in these reviews and my site. My contact info is below.

Here is another super fine reissue, from Timex, of a 1975 Q model in goldtone color, with a unique period case. As with the other watches in the series of Q Reissues, this one has been meticulously created like the original, with some modern improvements.

It is in many ways, a wristwatch embodiment of the mid 1970s.
The watch is 38 mm, not huge but it appears larger because of the case shape. You can see it is largely a gold watch. Case most notably, but also dial, hands, and indices.

The original watch was an electromechanical "quartz" watch, using movements similar the Timex Electric models, but with a quartz modulation that improved timekeeping. If you'd like to see an examples of the original, here is my friend Rafa's Instagram post.

Every detail was re-created from the original. It is difficult to truly show the case with photos, but you can see here it has a complex shape with slopes and curves going down and out from the lugs. The case was challenging to make, but in the end it turned out great. Here is also a good look at the raised domed acrylic crystal.
The improved steel caseback is secured by four screws. The original 1975 snapped on, and could be removed by popping it off with a tool. This improvement creates a more secure and probably better water resistant watch. The steel case with goldtone plating is also an improvement over the original, which was plated base metal.

In the reissue series, Timex has improved materials and other features to make a better and more durable watch than the original, but without changing the appearance and design.
Close look at the dial features. The dial was also not easy to re-create. The hour indices are applied, with a groove in the center and facet edge centrally. Gold hands have a black strip in the center. Day date windows framed in black.
The strap is even created to be like the original! Shiny black leather (was probably vinyl the original) retaining the same period design with the fat loop!
"Saturday Night Fever" didn't come out until 1977, but I just had to include this, because 1975 was kind of a watershed year for disco music. While the origins and history of disco are beyond the scope here, and there were elements of disco subcultures in the late 1960s and earlier, 1975 was the year that disco more or less "hit the mainstream," with top 40 disco hits and a kind of explosion of artists recording and releasing disco records. Two years later in 1977, the Studio 54 nightclub opened, and "Saturday Night Fever" was released.

You could say this Timex was there at the dawn of disco.
The dial is really beautiful.
The Volkswagen Rabbit also came out in 1975.

So did the Pet Rock, below.
Beautiful!

While totally gold watches are less my thing than steel watches, I love this watch and enjoy wearing it.

It's a great example of a large and sort of "flashy" Seventies watch, and Timex has re-created it flawlessly. The watch was a kind gift from Timex, and I'm grateful as always.

Thanks for reading.

I hope you will like it.
