1964 British Timex *Sprite. Beautiful simple dial and hands.
Hi, this is Alan. Thanks for reading, and for your interest in watches. My contact info is below.
Here is an early 1960s watch made by Timex for teenagers. I have lost the brochure I once had, but this exact watch was shown in the section of YOUTH watches, and showed teenagers in the pics.
Watch has to me a "classic" watch or clock appearance, with some flourishes. Basic white background, black lettering and hands, and red seconds. High-contrast, easy to read, no clutter.
Note: I am not certain that at the time the watch was made the "Sprite" name was a known name yet. I sure that the brochure that I lost did not call it Sprite, and the name probably came later. However, the movement, case and other features are sufficiently similar to watches that later were called Sprite in catalogs, etc.
The hands are truly black; this isn't just silvery hands that look black from a cell phone shadow, but they are really black. Many TIMEX from the '60s and '70s had silvery non lume hands shaped just like this, but I like these better.
The classic TIMEX caseback stamp, for decades, TIMEX in the center, and four features listed.
Huge pic, but I wanted to show the dial better. TIMEX, WATERPROOF, MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN printed oon the dial. I really like the typestyle for the numerals. The open 6 and 9. The blunt top to the 4. Serif on the 7, The extra length of the 2 around the curve. And note that the numerals in 12 are slightly larger than others.
Can't beat a red seconds hand.
Just a "simple" and honest-looking mid Sixties TIMEX with uncluttered look, easy to read, easy on the eyes.
Thanks for readiing.
I hope you wii like it.
Alan
