Early 1950s WATERPROOF Timex Made in Britain, Cream Dial.
Non seconds hand movement. Probably predates creation of the "Marlin" model name.
Hi. This is Alan. Thanks for reading this page, and for your interest in my watches. My contact info is at the bottom.
Here is a really nice-looking 1950s Timex, made in Scotland with a sharply contrasting dial and hands. The seconds hand is not missing, this model uses a movement designed for hour and minute hand only. The hands are black metal, and the dial numerals and markings are black. There is no luminous material at all.
This watch was used quite a bit by the owner/owners. Notice the crown has not only lost all of the chrome plate to reveal the underlying brass, but also the "ridges" or little raised "teeth" that help you grip the crown as wind it, ridges that are part of the underlying brass, have also been largely worn away!
Here is a good look at the dial. MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN at the bottom. Note the vertical sides to the M in TIMEX. British Timex watches often had this M, while watches made in the US usually had the M with flared out sides. Although this is a WATERPROOF Timex, I believe this was made before the model name "Marlin" was created for the line of 1950s waterproof watches. It may be from as early as 1950 or 1951.
Caseback markings. Notice there is no mention of V-CONIC, which is commonly observed on the casebacks of 1950s British Timex watches.
Movement, partially covered by a plastic movement holder. Is this movement 22? Is it movement 21? Does anyone know? Notice again the brassing and wear to the crown. TIMEX SCOTLAND. Made the US TIME factory in Dundee, Scotland,
Notice one of the spring clips is broken off. The watch is not running,
A rather attractive old Timex.
If anyone knows more about this Timex, has ads showing the watch, especially if date is known, please let me know, thanks.
Thank you for reading.
I hope you will like it.
Alan
