1993 Timex with classic black circular dial ring. Made toward the end of Timex mechanical watches.
Hi, this is Alan. Thank you for reading. My contact information is below.
Here is an attractive Timex mechanical hand-wound watch having classic dial appearance that has been replicated by dozens of watchmakers of many decades.
35 mm case, chrome plated. Dial is slightly offwhite, with a bold black ring holding the hour numerals. Hashmarks and arrows for the minutes. Hands can look dark depending on the photo, they are slivery, unpainted metal. Dial has TIMEX and the Wave symbol for water resistance. Notably, the actual words WATER RESISTANT, are missing from the dial. Date window at the usual location.
Case is interesting. It is identical to the case of The Last Timex Mechanical, 1996, which you can see at this page. The back of the case sloped inward, such that the caseback is far smaller than the diameter of the watch. You can open the back and see the movement (M105, also the same as the Last Mechanical) but cannot remove it through the back. The back is far too small. You would need to remove the crystal and remove it through the front. Notice the case, rather than being shiny chrome, has a kind of textured, granular quality.
Here is a page from a 1992 Timex France catalog, showing my watch on the left. It appears from this pic, that my strap is orginal. Pic from Knut, thanks.
The dial is very pleasing to look at. The sharp contrast between the black ring and the white dial, with white numerals in the black ring. Edges are sharp.
This is a design that has been variable repeated over several decades, by many, many watch manufactures. Probably first seen in the 1920s, but maybe earlier.
The lettering for the hour numerals has a kind of modern feeling.
Here is one example, from Johan, showing this type of design.
Here is my KELTON! There were sooooo many of these....
There was a gold case version with a brown circle. From the same French catalog, 1992.
1993 was really toward the end the production of mechanical watches by Timex. As mentioned above, Timex issued a watch called the Last Mechanical. This was in 1996, but even by 1993, by far the majority of Timex were quartz watches. This watch uses the same M105 movement as that Last Mechanical, and has an identical case.
This watch does not seem to show up often. Maybe it wasn't made in great numbers. I'm not sure where it was sold. As shown above, it appears in a French catalog. I obtained mine from a seller in Poland.
An attractive Timex with classic styling, made toward the end of the mechanical era.
Thank you for reading.
I hope you will like it.
